Abstract

|
Virus associated hemophagocytic syndrome is a nonneoplastic, potentially reversible
process, which is characterized by histiocytic hyperplasia with
prominanthemophagocytosis in bone marrow smear, high fever, severe consitutional
symptoms, peripheral blood cytopenia and abnormalities in liver and coagulatory
functions.
Hepatosplenomegaly, lymphadenopathy, bilateral pulmonary infiltrates and skin fashes
are often present. Recently, the authors experienced three patients, who were compartible
to virus associated hemophagocytic syndrome in clinicopathologic aspects.
Bone marrow smear showed histiocytic hyperplasia with prominent hemopagocytosis
and proliferated histiocytes were benign in morphological aspects.
